Buy Clothes, Build an Outfit
Understand clothing assets, Virtual Atelier stores and Equipment-EX. Follow a PC shopping route, check the catalog and troubleshoot missing items.
Updated on
A clothing asset, its shop and a wardrobe tool serve different jobs. Start with one outfit’s author instructions, install the required shop framework and item files, then test buying and equipping the item before expanding your wardrobe.
This guide covers PC author releases, with sources reviewed on 26 October 2026. It does not establish a tested combination of every listed project. Console players should use the supported in-game catalog route.
Know which piece is missing
| Piece | Its role | What it does not supply |
|---|---|---|
| Clothing asset | The item content and applicable appearance files | Every shop’s registration or compatibility with every body |
| Virtual Atelier | Shopping and preview framework | Bundled stores or a complete clothing collection |
| A compatible Atelier store | Registers a shop catalog | Necessarily every required item asset |
| Equipment-EX | Outfit management | The download or purchase of missing clothing assets |
Some authors bundle several pieces together; others distribute them separately. Read the specific outfit and store pages rather than assuming that every download follows one packaging rule.
Choose one outfit first
Open the original author’s item page. Check which V/body it supports, its required frameworks, any replacement scope, and whether the author offers an Atelier store or a different acquisition method. Do not add unrelated body conversions just because a collection includes them.
Keep a clean save and a file record before installation. If your goal is a simple color replacement, the Actually Black Hair Color entry illustrates why replacement scope matters; a shared profile can affect more than V. Clothing compatibility needs the same attention to what files actually change.
Set up the shopping framework
The route below includes Virtual Atelier’s named requirements and their dependencies. It does not install a shop or clothing assets for you.
Follow the order below and check each stage before adding the next. These steps come from the directory’s named requirements.
Check this external prerequisite first
- RED4ext
Inspect red4ext/logs/red4ext.log for initialization and plugin-loading messages.
- ArchiveXL
Check the RED4ext logs for successful plugin loading, then test the dependent item.
- Codeware
Check RED4ext’s plugin-loading log, then test the dependent feature. Codeware alone does not add a clothing shop.
- redscript
Check the release’s startup log under r6/logs. The current README names redscript_rCURRENT.log; older releases may use a different log name.
- Mod Settings
Check that the participating mod’s options appear. Do not use an unrelated CET mod as the test.
- Virtual Atelier
Check a separately installed store for its expected items. An empty Atelier tab can mean no store has been installed.
Source review only. Choose matching author releases for your game patch; this order does not certify a working combination.
Open this dependency checklist →Check the author’s current files against your patch before proceeding. Virtual Atelier was reviewed at 1.6.4; this is a source snapshot, not a certified combination with the versions in someone else’s collection. Keep your selected release recorded alongside those of its dependencies.
Mod Settings and Native Settings UI are separate tools. This route needs the framework named by the author; substituting a similarly named menu project will not satisfy that dependency.
Add the store and item files
- Choose one store linked by the outfit author, or browse the Virtual Atelier author page for its usage and store ecosystem.
- Read the store’s Requirements and file descriptions. Install any separately required clothing assets and choose the variant matching your setup.
- Preserve each archive’s folder structure and installed-file record. Follow the author’s instructions when choosing main, optional or replacement files.
- Open V’s apartment computer and look for that specific store. Check its expected item rather than treating any visible tab as a complete success.
- Buy and equip one item. Check its appearance in your actual playthrough before adding another store or outfit.
A store catalog entry and a correctly rendered item are different checks. If buying works but the clothing is missing or incorrect, inspect the asset requirements and chosen variant before reinstalling the shop framework.
Add wardrobe management later
Equipment-EX is an optional next stage when your item is already available. Review its own prerequisites and current patch support separately; the existing source review does not certify it for every later game patch.
The minimal Equipment-EX plan records its release-specific evidence and the gap between its documented game 2.2 support and newer framework releases. Use that review before selecting versions for a 2.5 setup.
Use a small test outfit and save it. Reopen the wardrobe, apply it again and inspect the result. Keep shopping, equipping and outfit saving as separate checkpoints so you can tell which stage failed.
Troubleshoot the right stage
The Atelier tab exists, but it is empty
Virtual Atelier does not bundle stores. Check that you installed a compatible store and its required content. See the Atelier setup notes.
The entire shopping interface is missing
Check the framework releases and their startup logs, then the exact file placement. If an error appeared after an update, return to your installation record and isolate that change. Do not install every optional integration as a troubleshooting shortcut.
The item is available, but the outfit looks wrong
Compare the item’s supported body/V variant and requirements with your installed files. A store registration cannot correct a mismatched asset variant. Check the clothing author’s known limitations before changing unrelated frameworks.
Do I need Virtual Atelier Delivery or Browser Extension?
They are optional integrations in the checked Atelier requirements. Add one only if you want its function or a specific selected project requires it. They are not part of the base route above.
Keep a reversible wardrobe
Retain a pre-mod save and keep the archive for each outfit, store and framework. Follow the author’s removal instructions before deleting content from an ongoing playthrough. Keep common frameworks if other installed mods still require them.
For general file placement, read the PC installation guide. If the game no longer starts, use the recovery checklist before adding more clothing files.
Sources and review
This route uses the Virtual Atelier author description and requirements, Codeware documentation and Equipment-EX documentation. Item-specific requirements remain with the selected clothing author. Read our editorial method or report an outdated step.
