CET: The Missing RED4ext Requirement

A reproducible source-review case showing how a missing CET prerequisite was identified and corrected in the directory.

Updated on

The README for CET 1.38.1 explicitly requires RED4ext. CyberpunkMods previously listed only the Visual C++ runtime; the directory and checker now also include RED4ext. This is a documented correction reviewed on 26 October 2026. It is not a claim that we reproduced or repaired a game crash.

The source that establishes the requirement

The release evidence below links to CET's versioned release and its README at the corresponding commit. The Usage and configuration section identifies RED4ext as a prerequisite.

Before and after the correction

Before the correction, selecting CET alone could not flag RED4ext as missing because the dependency was absent from our records. After the correction, CET points to RED4ext, and that loader points to the external x64 Visual C++ runtime. The checker follows both direct and indirect tracked dependencies.

You can reproduce this site behavior by selecting CET alone: RED4ext appears among missing requirements. Add all missing tracked requirements, then separately confirm the external runtime on your own device. This checks the dependency plan; it does not establish patch compatibility.

If CET does not appear in your game

First confirm that your selected CET and RED4ext releases support your game patch. Then check that CET's files were extracted into the game root rather than a nested bin directory, and follow the author's first-launch overlay instructions. Inspect the CET log under bin/x64/plugins/cyber_engine_tweaks if the overlay still does not appear.

An absent loader is one possible cause. Without a real log or reproduction, it would be misleading to claim that installing RED4ext fixes every failed CET launch. The crash recovery guide explains how to isolate a failing change.

What remains unverified

The reviewed CET README does not name a game patch. Its 1.38.1 release notes describe an SDK and helper update. We have not measured launch success, mod behavior or performance, and this review does not establish support for every CET-based mod. Keep those questions separate from the verified documentation requirement.
